Learning Through Touch: How Pavani Experienced Hands-On Science Learning

April 17, 2026

Pavani, a Class 7 student, experienced hands-on science learning for visually impaired students through an accessible science lab that transformed how she understands concepts.

My name is Pavani, and I study in Class 7 at the Government High School for Blind Girls in Malakpet.

I really enjoy spending time in the science lab. Earlier, we did not have a lab in our school, so we mostly learned from books without doing any activities. It was often difficult to fully understand the concepts.

Now, things have changed.

With the new science lab, we are able to learn through activities. This has made a big difference for me.

When I learn by doing and using my sense of touch, it becomes much easier to understand and remember what is being taught.

In the lab, we have done many interesting activities such as Help Me, the Respiratory System, Convex and Concave Mirrors, and Water Maintains Its Level. Among these, I liked the activity on Water Maintains Its Level the most.

Before this, I did not understand this concept clearly. But when I performed the experiment myself, I was able to understand how water behaves and why it maintains its level. Learning in this way helped me grasp the idea much better.

I am excited to do many more such activities in the future. This science lab has made learning enjoyable and meaningful for me.

How Hands-On Science Learning Helps Visually Impaired Students

Through accessible, hands-on STEM learning, students like Pavani are able to experience science in ways that make concepts clear, engaging, and inclusive.
