Pragya – Teacher Training Program at IAB, Madurai, May 2025

May 31, 2025

Vision Empower conducted a 2 day Pragya – Teacher Training Program at the Indian Association for the Blind (IAB), Madurai on 29th and 30th May 2025. The two-day workshop brought together six educators from the school, to enhance their teaching approaches
for students with visual impairments.

Over the two days, participants were introduced to Vision Empower and its accessible Learning Management System, Subodha, which aims to make education inclusive for visually impaired students. They explored experiential and inclusive STEM pedagogies and actively engaged in hands-on science activities using Iris, a tactile-audio device that enhances conceptual understanding. On the second day, the focus shifted to Computational Thinking (CT), where participants experienced a variety of interactive math activities and learned to use the Hexis device. The day concluded with exciting CT games like Number Pyramid, Sudoku, and Equation Games, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and joyful learning among the teachers.

The training received enthusiastic feedback, with participants appreciating the practical nature of the sessions and the accessibility of the tools introduced. The program not only empowered teachers with new strategies but also reaffirmed their commitment to inclusive education.

Testimonial – Shanmugapriya, Science and Math teacher

“Hello everyone,

The two-day workshop was extremely valuable. While I was already using some teaching methods, I gained many new strategies to make my classes more engaging and effective.

I had limited knowledge about teaching students with visual impairments (VI). That’s why I have been committed to learning and improving over the past year. This workshop has significantly enhanced my understanding, especially in teaching challenging subjects
like Math to VI students.

I am now confident in applying these techniques to meet my students’ needs and make learning more interesting for them. The sessions were very well organized and beneficial for all teachers involved.

Thank you for this opportunity.”
