Anubhav: Experiential STEM Learning Session in West Bengal

The VE team conducted a Project VICT (Computational Thinking for Visually Impaired) session and an Anubhav session involving a few experiments in Science in Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys Academy on March 31st, 2023 in Narendrapur, Kolkata.

The VICT session was attended by grades 3, 4 and 5 in two groups. A total of 20 students were introduced to Braille playing cards, Pebble games and Board games. Most of the students were able to understand and follow the games without difficulty. They were familiar with Ludo, however many of the students were not familiar with Snakes and Ladders. The game Tic Tac Toe and Connect 4 was also new for the grade 3 and 4 boys.

In the second half, 26 children from grades 6 and 7 were introduced to a few hands-on activities in Science. Most of the activities were conducted with a question, to begin with, and verifying their answers by conducting simple experiments. Such as which items will get dissolved in water and testing various items to see if they get dissolved. Some of the children were able to follow the concept well and demonstrated existing knowledge by sharing their thoughts on the same.

Again two groups were formed for the quiz. They were able to answer most of the questions asked for the quiz. They seemed to enjoy all the sessions thoroughly.
