Celestial Symphony: Children Reach for the Stars at Anubhav Session

Children from Louis Braille Memorial Model School For The Blind, Idukki transcended the limits of their senses and delved into the mysteries of the universe and the realm of numbers at the one-day STEM camp held at school on 9th December 2023, Saturday. The one-day STEM camp was planned as two sessions- a morning session on the Universe and solar system in Science and a post-noon session on number sense in Maths.

In a celestial gathering of young minds, a science session unfolded as children embarked on an extraordinary journey into the mysteries of the universe and the solar system. Hosted by Vision Empower, this camp aimed to make the wonders of space accessible to all and take the wonders of the sun, moon, and stars, within reach of every participant.

The day commenced with the interactive discussion on sky elements and later transported the children into the vastness of space, igniting their curiosity about the stars, planets, and beyond. Children were taken outside the classroom to explore the sky and were excited to notice a rainbow beaming high. The session was filled with hands-on activities and interactive sessions where children learnt about planets in the solar system, day and night, rotation, revolution and different phases of the moon. Through activities, the children traced the orbits of planets, and grasped the scale of the solar system, transforming abstract concepts into tangible knowledge.
Post lunch session was on enhancing basic numeracy skills among children. Through engaging exercises and hands-on activities, children learned to conceptualize numbers, counting, sorting, number quantity association, place value and arithmetic operations. Learning through play using numerous TLMs enhanced their understanding, making abstract mathematical concepts more accessible.
As the camp was coming to an end, children, equipped with newfound knowledge and enriched sensory experiences, departed with the universe and numbers at their fingertips.
