A Lesson That Stayed with Aniket
Aniket is a Class 6 student at Victoria Memorial School for the Blind, Maharashtra.
He comes from a family that is into farming. Aniket learned about environmental challenges such as water scarcity and the importance of rainwater harvesting.
The learning was accessible, meaningful and closely connected to the realities around him.
A Challenge at Home
At home, Aniket’s learning suddenly felt like the need of the hour. His family had been struggling with water shortages on their farm for years. Even after digging deep borewells, the water table remained low.
The shortage of water made it difficult to irrigate crops such as tur dal and cotton.
Turning Learning into Action
Aniket decided to act on what he had learned. He set up an old storage drum on the farm to collect and store rainwater. Then connected the drump with a pipe. The collected rainwater could now support irrigation on the farm.
A classroom lesson had become a practical, real-life solution.

Aniket’s experience shows how accessible education and experiential learning can empower children with visual impairments to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world challenges, including environmental and water conservation.
