How can a student with visual impairment explore a cell, understand a circuit, or conduct a science experiment independently?

During this quarter, Vision Empower set up 19 Accessible Science Labs across six states – 12 in Karnataka, 2 in Telangana, 2 in Maharashtra, 1 in Kerala, 1 in Tamil Nadu, and 1 in Gujarat. With tactile models, adapted experiment kits, and accessible learning resources, these labs are benefiting 1000 learners, expanding access to meaningful, hands-on science learning across schools.

An accessible classroom starts with an equipped teacher. This quarter, Vision Empower’s teacher-development initiative, Pragya, reached two new regions, Assam and Uttar Pradesh, for the first time. Through hands-on workshops in Guwahati and Gorakhpur, 76 educators explored practical approaches to accessible STEM learning, including tactile resources, play-based pedagogy, Computational Thinking, digital literacy and assistive technologies such as Hexis and Iris.

Vision Empower’s summer learning initiatives helped more than 300 students with visual impairments stay connected to learning during the school break. Across multiple regions, students strengthened Braille reading through Hexis, explored STEM and Computational Thinking through hands-on activities, and built confidence through online and offline learning programmes.

Karnataka also hosted its first residential Summer Learning Camp, bringing students and parents together for activity-based mathematics learning.

How can everyday classroom moments help children become more confident and independent?

Through Vision Empower’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme, we introduced Mindshift, a new initiative that uses simple, purposeful activities to support children’s emotional well-being, confidence and engagement in the classroom. One such activity explored the power of choices. Children were encouraged to choose a toy, movement, texture, sound or smell and explain why they made that choice. This simple experience helped strengthen self-expression, reasoning and self-awareness, while also building greater confidence and independence.

Across 10 volunteering events this quarter, volunteers from Wipro, Cognizant, and a group of enthusiastic students came together to make learning more accessible.

From tactile Earth layers and biology models to fraction boards, factor trees, Rubik’s Cubes, and creative learning materials, every contribution is helping turn highly visual concepts into experiences students with visual impairments can explore more independently.

More than 2,000 kilometres apart, Ankita in West Bengal and Nainika in Kerala found new confidence through accessible learning.

While Ankita grew from a quiet observer into an active participant in science, Nainika developed a stronger interest in Mathematics and Science through hands-on learning.
