Inside a World of Accessibility, VE Experience Zone At The Bangalore Airport!

“I never thought games like ludo and snakes and ladder could be made tactile which are played by children with visual impairment”,

shared Shriya who was introduced to the interventions of Vision Empower (VE) at the Bangalore Airport.

As part of observing the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, VE exhibited its work by creating a special Experience Zone at the Bengaluru International Airport from the 1st to 3rd of December 2022 in alignment with the UN theme of “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world”.

With support from Microsoft India, Sankara Eye Hospital, Kempegowda International Airport Limited and Young Indians, the VE Experience Zone display aimed to give the passengers travelling from the Bangalore airport a first-hand experience inside the world of accessibility.

Right after the security check, the passengers were attracted to the experience zone consisting of the STEM resources stalls, play stations, massive posters and standees all displaying the various interventions of VE. The VE team and volunteers from Sankara Eye and Young India sensitised the passengers about VE’s work in making STEM education and Computational Thinking accessible for children with visual impairment.

The children and youngsters were also introduced to the games as they enjoyed playing these being blindfolded to understand how a child with visual impairment plays them with the same level of fun and excitement.

VE Team also distributed brochures to the interested passengers to get a better understanding of the mission and vision of VE and share further with others.

Many passengers appreciated the work VE is doing in making inclusive education a reality. The kids travelling with their parents enjoyed playing games with the VE team and the volunteers from Sankara Eye Hospital and Young Indians.

8-year-old Advik says, “I loved playing ludo with Aishwarya didi and getting to know how children of my age who are visually impaired play these games. I played tic tac toe and connect four too but ludo was my favourite. Thank you Vision Empower for playing with me.”
