Making Environmental Learning Accessible: Four Nature Corners Inaugurated Across Four States

Nature has come LIVE and ACCESSIBLE in four schools across Kerala, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. But how can students with visual impairments explore and learn about the natural world through more than sight?

Environmental learning often depends heavily on visual observation, which can limit how students with visual impairments explore and understand the natural world around them.

Through Nature Corners, set up by Vision Empower in collaboration with Wipro Foundation, we are working to make environmental learning more accessible, hands-on and multisensory.

What are Nature Corners?

Nature Corners are accessible, multisensory learning spaces where students can explore plants, soil, biodiversity and environmental concepts through touch, sound, movement and hands-on activities.

How Nature Corners Make Environmental Learning Accessible

These Nature Corners are accessible spaces where students can touch, explore, listen, experience, and learn about nature. Learners engage through a multi-sensory and accessible approach, where concepts such as plants, soil, biodiversity, and the environment become more real and easier to understand.

They take part in hands-on gardening and ecological learning.

They explore concepts using tactile, audio and hands-on Earthian learning resources, including IRIS devices, rain sticks, water-testing kits, gardening tools and Earthian activity sheets in Braille. These Earthian learning kits have been distributed across 10 schools, including the four schools with Nature Corners.

They access information through tactile resources, audio descriptions and assistive technology

Each Nature Corner is an opportunity to build curiosity, environmental awareness and a deeper connection with nature. By making environmental learning accessible through touch, sound, movement and hands-on exploration, these spaces encourage students with visual impairments to understand and care for the world around them and grow into conscious custodians of our planet.
