Vision Empower conducted a two-day Pragya Teacher Training at the Sharp Memorial School for the Blind, Dehradun on 24th and 25th February 2023.

The training started with an introduction to VE interventions as well as a briefing about VE’s teaching methodologies. The teachers were given hands-on training on how to use accessible materials like Teacher Instruction Kits, Tactile Diagrams, Geometry Kits, etc. in teaching STEM concepts to the children with visual impairment.

The teachers were also made familiar with the way we instil the skills of computational thinking and numeracy among students through Project VICT (Computational Thinking for Visually Impaired) games. The teachers found this concept creative and fun as they played various card games, board games and pebble games as well as learnt about the key learning areas each game focuses on.

Apart from this, the teachers were oriented on VE’s accessible Learning Management System Subodha where they learnt how to access the teaching and learning materials via the app as well as the web portal. They were also taught how to access VE’s digital and computer literacy tutorials through you-tube and subodha. Most of the teachers found the tutorial on the ‘Be My Eyes’ app extremely useful.

The superintendent of the school Ms Ancy appreciated all the work VE is doing and showed interest in working closely with VE to ensure that the teachers and students are benefitted from the accessible STEM teaching and learning materials respectively.
