Tamil Nadu Pragya for Pre-service Teachers

On 22nd April 2024, Vision Empower conducted a Pragya Teacher Training at Alagappa University’s Department of Special Education in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. 80 students who are currently pursuing B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees in Special Education participated in the workshop aimed to enhance the teaching skills and knowledge of these pre-service teachers.

The workshop began with an orientation on experiential learning, emphasising hands-on, interactive teaching methods designed to increase student engagement and retention. This was followed by an orientation on computational thinking, where participants were introduced to essential problem-solving techniques and logical reasoning skills.

Participants were also introduced to Subodha and Hexis, VE’s assistive technologies that play a key role in supporting learning &  teaching for teachers and children with visual impairment, respectively. Additionally, various computational thinking game sessions were conducted, including card games, market games, birthday games, and Connect.

The highlight of the training was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Alagappa University and Vision Empower during the inauguration of the Pragya Workshop. This agreement marks a collaborative effort to enhance educational practices and resources for special education. The Vision Empower Tamil Nadu team also had the opportunity to meet with the Vice Chancellor of Alagappa University, where they discussed on furthering this partnership to train the teachers in teaching STEM subjects to children with visual impairment.
