VE interventions reach Meghalaya
On the 27th of March, 2023, a small team of three (Devidatta, Supdipta and Shiladitya) from Vision Empower reached the School of Mother Elizabeth for the Visually Impaired in Jowai, which is located in the scenic terrain of West Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya.
The two-day teacher training workshop was conducted with 9 teachers.
15 students attended the Anubhav and VICT sessions. The first day of the training began with a welcome note from Ms Supriya Dey. The teachers were oriented and trained on various pedagogic approaches and methodologies for teaching Science and Mathematics in the classroom. They were also introduced to the Subodha platform and Digital Literacy tutorials. All the teachers were trained to use the Hexis device along with the use of the Antara platform on both days.
The day-two of the event focused mainly on activities involving children. An Anubhav (experiential STEM learning) session was conducted with children from grades 5, 6 and 7, where they were encouraged to participate in activities related to Geometry and Water concept. The 5 students participated enthusiastically in all the activities. For the VICT session, groups were formed with children from grades 3 and 4 in one group and grades 5, 6 and 7 were put into another group. They were introduced to Braille playing card games and pebble games.
The teachers felt that a 2-day training program is not sufficient to hone their teaching skills and fulfil their need to learn more and be updated in the field of education. They expressed their wish to have this kind of training program to be held for a longer duration in future.
