Vision Empower Pragya Teacher Training Workshop for the teachers of Srimati Kamla Mehta Dadar School for the Blind

On 1 st October (Saturday), 11 teachers from the special school attended the teacher training workshop conducted by Vision Empower. Out of them, 4 teachers are visually impaired. It was an online training facilitated by VE Educational Coordinators Ms Devidatta, Ms Jyoti and Ms Prerana.

Since this was the first training session for them by VE, the teachers were given a brief overview of Vision Empower’s structure and initiatives followed by a detailed presentation on Pragya training, VICT interventions and the school engagement model followed by VE.

The workshop focussed on VICT games. The teachers were oriented with games from four different categories namely, Ice breaker games, Braille playing card games, Pebble games and Board games along with the Key Learning Indicators (KLIs) for each of the game being played.

The teachers enthusiastically participated in all the games with the resources sent by VE. They shared their thoughts on the games and told us how they also engage their students in similar activities/games. Games such as Noughts & Crosses and Pebbles were already being played with their students. They also use Braille playing cards with their students for teaching numeracy skills. However, games like Last One Standing and I see 10 are the ones they played for the first time. The teachers with visual impairment were also able to play with some help from their sighted colleagues.

The future engagement would be to start with VICT sessions once a week and hope to have mutual fruitful learning in the long run.
