Vision Empower Workshops at GIFB Summer Camps

May 7, 2025

As part of the summer camps organized by the Global Islamic Foundation for the Blind (GIFB), Vision Empower conducted two workshops in Malappuram (May 2nd) and Kasaragod (May 7th), 2025. These sessions were designed to enrich the learning experiences of visually impaired children through accessible, hands-on education and marked a meaningful stride toward inclusive learning environments.

Across both locations, the workshops engaged a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and support staff, with nearly 30 visually impaired children participating. Each session was crafted to combine fun, interaction, and meaningful learning, using methods that cater to the sensory strengths of the children.

Highlights of the Combined Activities:

  • Tactile Science Experiments like “Float and Sink,” encouraging exploration through touch and guided discussions
  • Mathematics Games using accessible tools and physical activities to teach concepts like multiples, counting, and problem-solving
  • Shape Exploration with kits such as Rangometry, the Geo Board, Magnetic Pad, and Jodo Straws to support spatial reasoning and creativity
  • Computational Thinking (CT) Activities that introduced logic and problem-solving through play
  • Interactive Icebreaker Games to build communication skills and peer connection
  • Demonstrations of Assistive Technologies including Hexis and Iris, showcasing tools that support Braille reading and independent learning
  • Engaging Learning Stations such as the Vision Empower stall, where children and adults explored educational tools and resources

These sessions were more than just workshops they were spaces of discovery and empowerment. Children actively engaged with every activity, demonstrating enthusiasm, curiosity, and growing confidence. The thoughtful design of the sessions allowed each child to participate meaningfully, while parents and teachers gained new insights into accessible teaching methods and assistive tools.

Impact and Feedback:

The feedback from both camps was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers and parents expressed appreciation for the engaging, inclusive format, and many voiced interest in continuing such workshops in the future. The activities not only supported academic learning
but also encouraged social bonding, independence, and self-expression.

Vision Empower’s collaboration with GIFB reflects the transformative power of inclusive education. By scaling such initiatives, we can ensure that visually impaired children across regions are given equal opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
