Empowering Parents to Support Learning at Home

June 11, 2026

A child’s learning journey extends beyond the classroom, and parents play a vital role in shaping that experience. However, when a child is visually impaired, many families may not have access to the knowledge, resources, or strategies needed to effectively support learning at home. In many cases, parents are sighted and may be unfamiliar with accessible learning methods. Even when parents are visually impaired themselves, their own educational opportunities may have been limited.

Recognising this need, Vision Empower conducts parent workshops and awareness sessions that equip families with practical tools, hands-on learning techniques, and a better understanding of how children with visual impairments learn. These sessions help parents actively participate in their children’s education, create supportive learning environments at home, and strengthen their role in their children’s learning journey.

Ms. Nagarathna R. Bhat, a Senior School Coordinator at Vision Empower, along with participating parents, shares insights on how these awareness sessions help families become more engaged in their children’s learning journeys, both at home and beyond the classroom.
